Large Boiler ‘Tich’ 3-1/2″ gauge Partially Completed Steam Locomotive Project
LBSC ‘Tich’ design

This is a large boiler ‘Tich’ started many years ago in Kingston by David Page.

From the photo and brochure included in the 1977 revision of the LBSC Tich building manual,
I suspect that David was planning to make it in the style of the Muskoka Heritage Place 0-4-0 saddle tank locomotive.

As can be seen in the photos, there was a light coating of rust on much of the steel but I have managed to remove most
with a chemical de-ruster and wire brush on the footplate and cab. Have not done anything with the chassis.

Included are:

  • Full set of drawings.  LBSC book “Simple Model Locomotive Building – TICH”  (1977 revised paperback)
  • A cast grate, complete finished silver soldered boiler (No boiler certificate, but it looks to have been well made),
copper smokebox, cast smokebox door, two cast chimneys
  • Very good mechanical lubricator
  • Erected chassis with wheels on axles, pump, eccentric, saddle, left-hand cylinder and some motion parts fitted
  • Nicely riveted cab and separate roof, running boards, rods fitted
  • Right hand cylinder, piston very good fit, both end caps, links, and motion for rest of the Walschaerts valve gear
  • Some copper/brass fittings as in photos – tees, elbows.   Card pattern for saddle tank
  • Copper 3-1/3” x 5” x ¼”  two pieces suspect for ends of saddle tank?
  • Copper sheet 6” x 14-½” x 1/16” one piece not sure what for?
  • Brass 1/8” x 1-½” x 9-½”     Brass 1/8” x 2” x 12”
